The first thing you should really know about myself is that I have always wanted to be a teacher. Since I can remember. When other kids were playing doctor or traveling to the moon in their wooden-box-made spaceships I used to picture myself in front of a classroom. My best friends often played along and acted out as my students. I was happy. I felt complete. Three decades after that very same feeling still is my driving force.
I strongly believe that all teachers ought to be academically curious namely because we need to be at the forefront, constantly upgrading our knowledge. The latter combined with the fact that I have always been a language enthusiast is why I decided to get a Master´s degree in linguistics. During the program I got the chance to review the latest developments concerning research methodology in Linguistics, First and second language learning/acquisition theories, Morphosyntactic models, CLIL (Content and language integrated learning), Speech and discourse analysis (which has become a focal point in my lessons), English phonetics and phonology among many others. My final thesis named “The effects of an enhanced musical aptitude on oral production and vocabulary learning in university EFL learners” was an attempt to combine two of my biggest passions, music and language. This work yielded interesting results aiming at re shaping the way music is used in language lessons.
